Police say suspect relocated from Fla. where assault occurred.

A man convicted of sexually assaulting a 12-year-old in Florida has been arrested by Greenwich Police for failing to register as a sex offender when he moved to Old Greenwich last month.

According to a statement released Wednesday by , Steven E. Amoling, 44, whose last known address was 26 Nimitz Place, Old Greenwich, lived in Florida and notified the Florida Department Law Enforcement on April 13 that he was permanently relocating to Greenwich.

Under Connecticut law, an offender has five business days from the date of arrival in CT to register (in person) as a sex offender with the CT Sex Offender Registry Unit (SORU), police said.  Greenwich detectives were monitoring Amoling from the moment of his arrival, and after Amoling failed to register within the statutory timeframe, obtained a warrant for his arrest, according to the press release.
