Oops! A Case of Mistaken Identity Leads to Drunk Driving Bust

Greenwich Police arrest motorist for drunk driving after he was reportedly following a delivery man around town.

Talk about a case of mistaken identity.

Greenwich Police say they arrested a motorist who was reportedly following a commercial delivery driver in the wee, small hours of the morning Feb. 19, thinking the driver was a friend. Turns out they didn't know one another and the deliveryman called police because he was concerned about being tailed, according a police report.

According to the report, Ryan M. Thorn, 28, of 85 Lindale St., Stamford, was busted for driving under the influence after police stopped him at the Mobil gas station at 623 W. Putnam Ave., at 3:15 a.m. Feb. 19. "The offending operator followed the delivery driver through several streets while mistaking the driver for an acquaintance, until both vehicles arrived in the Mobil station parking lot," officers wrote in the report.

As officers interviewed Thorn, they detected an odor of alcohol and that he had "glassy, red eyes, slurred speech and he was visibly unsteady on his feet," according to the report. Thorn was said to have failed field sobriety tests.

Thorn posted a $250 bond and was scheduled to appear March 7 in state Superior Court in Stamford.
