Pair Who Fled Greenwich Accident Scene, Now Face Charges

A driver and one of his passengers face a variety of charges after Greenwich Police say they fled the scene of an accident on Hobart Avenue late Thursday.

According to a Greenwich Police report, police were called to 179 Hobart Ave. at 11:30 p.m. Aug. 22 on a report of a car accident. When they arrived they found Alejandro Marquez, 23, who gave an address of 50 Fountain Pl., New Rochelle, NY, in the car. Marquez is accused of ignoring officers' orders and trying to flee towards the nearby Byram River, where police say the driver and a second passenger fled, according to the report. Marquez was charged with interfering with police and was unable to post a $250 bond.

Near the river, police found the driver, Steven Romero, 23, who gave an address of 513 Locust Ave., Port Chester, NY, "covered in mud and hiding in a wooded area," according to the report. Romero reportedly had an odor of alcohol and failed field sobriety tests.

Romero was charged with driving while intoxicated, evading responsibility and unsafe movement and unable to post a $500 bond.

Both are scheduled to appear Sept. 6 in state Superior Court in Stamford.

There was no word on what happened with the second passenger.
