Purloined Wallet = Shopping Spree in Greenwich

A wallet containing credit cards was purloined by a sticky-fingered thief in a Greenwich shop and used for a shopping spree next door to the scene of the crime.

According to Greenwich Police spokesman, Lt. Kraig Gray, the victim reported her wallet was taken from her purse, which was placed on the floor of the Bellini Baby & Child at 40 W. Putnam Ave., sometime on Feb. 21.

The theft was reported around 10 a.m. Feb. 22, after the wallet's owner was notified by a credit card company that her card had been used to make a purchase of $750 in merchandise from Mommy Chic Maternity, located next door at 38 W. Putnam Ave., according to Gray.

"The wallet was taken from the purse that was left unattended on the floor and immediately used to make about $750 in purchases," Gray said.
