Update: 14 Injured As Stanwich School Mini-Bus Crashes Into Tree
A Stanwich School bus was involved in a crash, injuring 14 students and the driver.
Update: 7:20 p.m., May 28:
Stanwich School says that four of its students remain hospitalized Wednesday night following a school bus crash earlier in the day.
According to the school, at least one student suffered "a broken bone" and may be hospitalized overnight. In the meantime, school officials have arranged for a school psychologist to meet with students on Thursday.
Here is the statement released by the school shortly after 7 p.m. Wednesday:
"A Stanwich School van was involved in a traffic accident shortly after 3:00pm this afternoon on Stanwich Road. Thirteen Upper School students and the driver were taken to Greenwich and Stamford hospitals to be treated or observed. The cause of the accident is unknown at this time and is under investigation.
"As of 6:45 p.m., nine of the thirteen students have been released from the hospital. We anticipate that the remaining students will be held overnight for observation, and have been advised that one of the students will be hospitalized for treatment of a broken bone.
"Our school psychologist will be at the Stanwich East campus tomorrow to speak privately with students and faculty. Jerome Murphy, Head of Upper School, will be reaching out through faculty and staff to ensure that all students have an opportunity to speak with the psychologist.
"Please join all of us in keeping the students and families in your thoughts and prayers. We will provide further information as it becomes available."

Here is the latest update on the Wednesday afternoon school bus crash in Greenwich, from Greenwich Police.
"This afternoon a small school bus, owned and operated by The Stanwich School of Greenwich, was traveling north on Stanwich Road carrying thirteen high school students. The bus was traveling between The Stanwich School’s Stamford Campus on its way to their Lower School campus located 257 Stanwich Road.

"For a yet to be determined reason, the bus driver swerved across the road and struck a very large tree located on the west side of the road. This collision caused the bus to come to a near dead stop. No other vehicle was involved in the accident.
"The force of the collision caused a significant intrusion into the passenger compartment in the area of the driver’s seat. The 74-year-old bus driver suffered serious but not life threatening injuries. All the passengers within the vehicle were thrown forward causing some form of injury. The injuries range from bumps, bruises, and bloody noses to broken bones. None of the injuries at scene appeared to be life threatening.
"All fourteen patients were transported to either the Greenwich Hospital Emergency Room (5 Patients) or to the Stamford Hospital Emergency Room (9 patients).
"In addition to local emergency service personnel, both Stamford EMS and Access Ambulance (based out of Stamford) responded and transported casualties.
"The parent notifications and was handled by The Stanwich School’s Head of School Paul Geise and hospital staff.
"Nothing further to be released at this time.

The Stanwich School, a private pre-K through 12th grade school at 257 Stanwich School has posted on its website:
"Minor Accident Involving School Van"
"A Stanwich School van was involved in an accident this afternoon. Students and the driver have been taken to Greenwich and Stamford hospitals to be treated for what appear to be minor injuries. More information will be available later."
Update: 5:23 p.m., May 28
Greenwich Police have just cleared Stanwich Road and reopened all local roads in the area of the school bus crash scene.
According to a Twitter post from the Greenwich Professional Firefighters Local 1042, 16 students were injured in the crash that occurred shortly after 3 p.m. None were seriously injured, according to Greenwich Police.
Update: 3:48 p.m., May 28
Greenwich Police have issued this statement regarding the school bus crash Wednesday afternoon.
"It is a one-vehicle accident involving a Stanwich School bus occupied by high school-age students. There are no serious injuries, but there are several injuries of the youths."
Police spokesman Lt. Kraig Gray said, "They are being transported to either Stamford or Greenwich hospitals. Arrangements are being made through the school to notify parents."
At about 3:45 p.m., four students were being taken to Greenwich Hospital, according to radio dispatches.
Update: 3:33 p.m., May 28:There are apparently multiple students injured in a mid-country Greenwich school bus crash Wednesday afternoon.
There are at least four ambulances at the scene and at least two patients already have been transported to Stamford Hospital, according to emergency radio dispatches.
Greenwich Police have multiple units and the accident investigation team at the scene. It is unclear whether the bus is a vehicle transporting Greenwich Public Schools students or a bus carrying private school students. However, police requested that Greenwich School Superintendent William McKersie be notified of the crash.

There are multiple Greenwich Police, Fire and Emergency Medical Service units at the scene of a reported school bus crash in the area of 140 Stanwich Road, in mid-country Greenwich.
According to Greenwich emergency radio dispatches, at least three Greenwich EMS ambulances have arrived at the scene to treat an unknown number of injuries. The injured are reportedly being treated and taken to Greenwich and Stamford hospitals.
The crash was reported about 3:03 p.m., Wednesday, May 28.
Greenwich Police have shut down Stanwich Road at Orchard Street, Stanwich at Hill Road, and Stanwich at Doubling Road.
