A Shelton man charged with driving under the influence of alcohol following a motor vehicle accident that occurred Friday, Jan. 11, on Church St. at East Putnam Ave. faces additional charges of interfering and assault on a police officer after he reportedly resisted being placed in a holding cell.
According to police, Kevin Haven, 28, of 500 Huntington St., Shelton, made an improper left turn at the intersection, resulting in the accident, which occurred at about 7:45 p.m. Officers who responded to the scene reportedly detected an odor of alcohol coming from Haven and noticed he was exhibiting signs of intoxication. He was administered a field sobriety test, which he reportedly failed.
Police said after Haven was brought into Greenwich Police Department, he became combative when officers tried to place him in a holding cell. Officers reportedly had to use a Taser on him in order to bring him into compliance.
Haven was charged with driving under the influence, making an improper left turn, interfering with an officer and two counts of assault on an officer. He posted a $7,500 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Jan. 18.
The arrest report did not include specifics about the motor vehicle accident.
