“It was bing, bing, bing, bing. There were four shots. It was pretty terrifying,” said Lyn Brignoli, who lives at the corner of Indian Field Road and Osceola Place, where the shooting took place after 10:30 p.m. Oct. 22.  “I was watching the aftermath of the debates … the cat jumped out its skin. I turned off the TV and closed the curtains,” said Brignoli who’s lived for 40 years in the neighborhood that is bordered by the private Milbrook Club.

The two intended targets were not injured, and according to Greenwich Police Chief James Heavey, they “were specifically targeted by the suspects … this was not a random crime. “

Heavey said that Greenwich investigators are working with other law enforcement agencies in the area.

Stamford police said they are working with Greenwich police and believe the shooting to be related to recent violence in the Lawn Avenue and Custer Street area of Stamford, that has left two Stamford men dead. Police believe the victims in the Cos Cob shooting were targeted as a direct result of the July violence, said Stamford Police Lt. Diedrich Hohn.

Darius Jones was killed in a July 7 incident that left three others injured by gunshots on Stamford’s East Side. in Stamford and his body dumped near Norwalk Hospital.

Until Monday night, the rivalry between the gangs appeared to have simmered down because of an increased police presence in the Stamford neighborhood, Hohn said.

The intended targets of the Monday incident are Stamford residents living on Lawn Avenue, Hohn said.

Brignoli said her neighborhood was swarming with police and fire personnel throughout the night  including the Cos Cob Fire Police Patrol which provided lighting of the crime scene for investigators.

Several officers  remained at the scene until nearly 11:30 a.m. Tuesday picking through lawns and falling leaves in search of evidence. The  intersection of Indian Field and Osceola was closed to traffic for a time.

Recalling the terror of the previous night, Brignoli said, “I know what a transformer explosion sounds like and trucks backfiring … It’s the first time I was really frightened in this house. It’s scary that it was so close.”
