Something Smelled on The Avenue

With a baby in his car parked on Greenwich Avenue, man is arrested for smoking pot.

Something didn’t smell right to two Greenwich Police detectives as they walked along Greenwich Avenue near East Elm Street.

About 1:35 p.m. Friday the pair were walking past a parked car and smelled that distinctive odor of burning marijuana. According to a police report, the officers questioned the man who admitted he was smoking a joint. The detectives also said that in the rear seat there was a baby strapped into a car seat.

The man, identified as Mikel Turnier of New York City, was arrested on three felony counts of risk of injury to a minor, sale of marijuana and operating a drug factory; and two misdemeanor counts of possession of less than four ounces of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

While police were arresting Turnier, a woman returned to the car and said she was the mother of the 16-month-old boy. The boy was taken into protective custody. The report did not indicate whether any charges were filed against the unidentified woman.
