State Police DUI, Speeding Arrests Over Thanksgiving Weekend Down from 2010

The number of speeding arrests between Wednesday and Sunday decreased dramatically compared to last year, according to Lt. J. Paul Vance.

It seems as if the over Thanksgiving weekend may have made an impact. The number of arrests for speeding, driving under the influence and accidents with injuries involved between Nov. 23 and Nov. 27 decreased this year compared to 2010, according to a statement released by Lt. J. Paul Vance.

Troopers patrolled all roads and highways across the state and focused on drunk driving violations and targeting aggressive drivers between midnight Wednesday and midnight Sunday, while sobriety checkpoints and targeted DUI patrols were in place over the entire weekend.

The following state police stats are from midnight on Wednesday, Nov. 23, through Sunday, Nov. 27, 2011.

  • Speeding arrests: 1,376
  • Seatbelt arrests: 417
  • Other hazardous moving violations (includes unsafe lane changes, following too closely, cell phone use, failure to signal, etc.): 2,745
  • DUI arrests: 65
  • Accidents investigated: 389
  • Accidents with injuries involved: 50
  • Fatal accidents: 2
  • Calls for service: 9,728

  • Seatbelt arrests: 151
  • Other hazardous moving violations (includes unsafe lane changes, following too closely, cell phone use, failure to signal, etc.): 3,411
  • DUI arrests: 80
  • Accidents investigated: 391
  • Accidents with injuries involved: 57
  • Fatal accidents: 1

State police will continue preventive enforcement effort until the end of the holiday season, according to the press release.
