Suspect in Cos Cob ID, Credit Card Theft Is Caught

A woman is facing identity theft and larceny charges in connection with the December burglary of a Cos Cob home.

According to Greenwich Police, the woman was taken into custody by the Hamden Police Department that apparently stopped her for a motor vehicle violation in that town about 3 a.m. Monday.

Greenwich Police spokesman Lt. Kraig Gray said investigators had obtained an arrest warrant for Sonya Bernea Bracy, 34, of State Street, Hamden, after she was identified in store security video making purchases with credit cards reported stolen Dec. 27, 2013 from a Loughlin Avenue home in Cos Cob.

"On Dec. 27, the residents realized someone had burglarized the house and took laptops and searched wallets, taking cash and credit cards," Gray said. A short time later, the residents received an alert that a card was being used at the Orange Avenue CVS in New Haven, Gray said.

Gray also said the card was used at a Walgreens in New Haven. He said Greenwich investigators obtained surveillance video from the stores and "networking with detectives from New Haven, identified the suspect and obtained a warrant."

Bracy was charged with sixth-degree larceny, third-degree identity theft, illegal use of a credit card and receiving goods/services obtained illegally. She was held in lieu of $50,000 bond and is scheduled to appear April 7 in state Superior Court in Stamford.

According to the Connecticut Judicial Branch website, Bracy has convictions for several charges including criminal impersonation and possession of narcotics.
