Suspected Greenwich Health Club Thief Charged

A man suspected of stealing a key fob and then entering a car belonging to a Greenwich health club employee in November is facing burglary and larceny charges.

According to Greenwich Police Lt. Kraig Gray, the suspect was one of a pair of men who used a complimentary one-day pass to access the Edge Fitness health club in Riverside on Nov. 16. The pair were acting suspiciously, prompting management to watch them, Gray said.

The suspect was seen taking a key fob with keys to the car of an employee and entering the car, Gray said. However, the man fled when club management confronted him. He was identified with identification he provided to use the one-day club pass and police obtained an arrest warrant charging him with third-degree burglary and sixth-degree larceny.

Darryl E. Montague II, 25, of South Second Street, Meriden, was picked up by Branford Police on Dec. 9. Montague was transferred to the custody of Greenwich Police. He was released after posting a $500 bond and is scheduled to appear Dec. 16 in state Superior Court in Stamford.
