Taxi Driver Charged with Drug Possession

A taxi driver who Greenwich Police was stopped by an officer who saw a defective brake light, was arrested on drug-related and driving with a suspended license charges Monday night.

According to police, the driver, identified as Nicholas A. Scarfone, 27, of 25 Livingston Pl., Greenwich, was arrested about 8:30 p.m. Monday after officers stopped him on Josephine Evaristo Avenue. Police said that during the stop, they found he had 23 waxed paper folds containing a brown powder which field-tested positive as heroin.

Scarfone was charged with possession of narcotics, possession of narcotics with intent to sell, possession of drug paraphernalia, operating under suspension and having a defective/inoperable brake light. He was released after posting $2,500 bond and scheduled to appear July 25 in state Superior Court in Stamford.

Shortly before 1 a.m. Wednesday, a Milford man surrendered to Greenwich Police who obtained arrest warrants charging with failure to appear in court on a variety of assault and motor vehicle charges.

According to a Greenwich Police report, Sean D. Fitzgerald, 33, of 43 Bailey Ln., Milford, with 2nd-degree failure to appear in court on June 22 on charges of illegal operation of a motor vehicle while under suspension, failure to properly displate plates, operating a motor vehicle without a license and failure to appear in court on Feb. 28 and March 30.

A second 2nd-degree failure to appear in court charge stemmed from Fitzgerald allegedly not showing up June 7 in court on charges of 3rd-degree assault, 2nd-degree breach of peace, 2nd-degree unlawful restraint, and 2nd-degree failure to appear in court on March 11 and March 14.

Details on all of the charges were not immediately available.

He was held in lieu of $12,500 bond and scheduled to appear July 20 in state Superior Court in Stamford.
