Teen Accused of Assaulting Grandmother

A 16-year-old girl was arrested on an assault charge, accused of assaulting her grandmother who asked her to watch her cousins while the grandmother went grocery shopping, according to Greenwich Police.

The Greenwich teen "became defiant and told (the grandmother) no" and assaulted the grandmother injuring one of the woman's fingers about 3:25 p.m. on Nov. 19, according to a police report. The cousins then tried to break up the assault, putting them "at risk of injury," according to the report. The report did not indicate whether the woman needed medical attention.

The teen was arrested on charges of third-degree assault and risk of injury to a minor. The girl's father took custody of his daughter because the grandmother said she was afraid to have the girl stay in her Hamilton Avenue home.

The girl is scheduled to appear Nov. 26 in the Juvenile Matters Division of state Superior Court in Stamford.
