Teen Charged with Shoplifting with a Christmas List in Greenwich

Stamford teen tells Greenwich Police she didn't have the money to buy gifts for her friends.

A 14-year-old girl faces three counts of sixth-degree larceny charges after she was found with clothing and makeup reportedly taken from three Greenwich Avenue stores.

According to a report released Dec. 27, the girl was arrested after an employee of the shop at 98 Greenwich Ave., reported seeing the suspect steal a red sweater valued at $71.99 on Dec. 19. Officers investigating the complaint, found the suspect in the nearby shop. "Without any questions from the officer, the juvenile handed over two more sweaters she had stolen from and several pieces of makeup she had stolen from ," according to the report. The two Vines sweaters had a $246.50 total value and the makeup at $120.

After questioning by a Special Victims Section detective, the girl was given a  juvenile summons charging her with three counts of sixth-degree larceny. According to the report, she told the investigator "a group of friends decided to exchange Christmas gifts and they told her that they already bought her gifts. The juvenile related that she did not have money to buy them gifts so she stole the items to give her friends Christmas gifts."

She was released on a promise to appear Jan. 3 in the Juvenile Matters division of state Superior Court in Stamford.
