Teens Caught Stealing from Byram Cars

A pair of 17-year-old boys are facing burglary and larceny charges after they were caught rifling through unlocked cars parked in a Byram neighborhood, according to Greenwich Police.

The boys—one from Port Chester, NY, the other from Norwalk—were caught around 5:30 a.m. July 16 on Henry Street after a resident confronted them after seeing them enter his car and take an iPod, according to a police report.

It wasn't clear how many cars had been entered, said police spokesman Lt. Kraig Gray. "People should lock their cars and never leave anything of value in them," Gray said.

The Port Chester teen admitted to entering a car and taking a set of keys, according to the report. The Norwalk teen admitted to entering another car and stealing the iPod. Both were charged with charged with fifth-degree larceny, conspiracy to commit fifth-degree and second-degree burglary. The Port Chester also was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia because he had a marijuana grinder, according to the report.

Both were assigned a July 23 date to appear in the Juvenile Matters Division of state Superior Court in Stamford.
