That's The Way The Ball Bounces...a Ticket for Trespassing

A father and son ticketed for playing basketball at Central Middle School—after entering through an unlocked door.

A Greenwich father and his son avoided more serious charges such as burglary, because they used an unlocked door to enter Central Middle School Saturday  night to play basketball.

According to Greenwich Police, the 58-year-old father and his 16-year-old son were found inside the gymnasium of the 9 Indian Rock Ln. school just after 6 p.m., Nov. 24. Officers investigating a burglary alarm, heard a ball bouncing inside the gymnasium and found the pair inside, according to police spokesman Lt. John Brown.

The pair told officers "they wanted to play basketball and found an unlocked door" to the school. They each were issued a misdemeanor summons for simple trespass, rather than a burglary charge, because "there wasn't any forced entry," Brown said.
