Thefts From Cars Continue to Plague Greenwich Residents

Police: Residents need to lock it up.

Greenwich Police continue to investigate the ongoing string of car burglaries which in most cases, are caused by residents leaving an open invitation to thieves - literally.

The latest rash of thefts occurred overnight Saturday in the High Street - Richland Road area in the western area of town.

There were a half-dozen thefts from cars parked in driveways or in front of homes, according to police reports.

Theives took small amounts of cash, and personal electronic devices including an Apple Ipod, police said. In several cases, the cars were left unlocked, police said.

"We continue to say that people really need to take measures to protect themselves," said Capt. Mark Marino, commander of the GPD Detective Division. "It's simple ... locking the doors and not leaving items in plain sight."
