Trucker Arrested on Weapons Charge in Greenwich

State police charged an Arizona man carrying a 9-millimeter handgun in his glove compartment.

State police late Friday morning arrested a 43-year-old Arizona man at the Greenwich weigh station on Interstate 95 after finding a 9-millimeter handgun in the glove compartment of his truck.

According to a police report issued by Connecticut State Police spokesman Lt. J. Paul Vance, a state trooper shortly after 11 a.m. seized the handgun (pictured) during a routine inspection of the tractor-trailer Christopher Zavarella of Surprise, Az. was driving.

Zavarella was taken into custody without incident, Vance said, and processed at State Police Troop G in Bridgeport. He was released on $1,000 bond and scheduled to appear Aug. 19 in state Superior Court in Stamford.
