Waterbury Woman Killed By Object Through Windshield

Vehicle was southbound on Interstate 95 in Greenwich.

A Waterbury woman was killed Saturday afternoon by an object that crashed through the windshield of an SUV on Interstate 95.

State Police said Sara Betancourt, 40, of 250 Northridge Rd., was the front seat passenger in the vehicle when the incident occurred. She was transported to Stamford Hospital and pronounced dead.

The incident was reported at 12:34 p.m.

The vehicle, a 2003 Ford Escape, was traveling southbound in the left lane, one mile north of Exit 4, when it was struck, police said.

It was being driven by its owner, Elizabeth Martinez, 60, of 286 Oak St., Waterbury. She stopped the vehicle on the Mianus River bridge.

Police said the accident investigation remained open pending further information.
