Wilton Man Sworn in as New Greenwich Police Recruit

On Monday, it was career dream come true for Brian Andronaco Jr.

The 22-year-old Wilton resident was sworn in as the Greenwich Police Department's newest recruit in the Feb. 3 ceremony at Greenwich Town Hall.

Andronaco said a law enforcement career has been in his sights for a long time, as evidenced by his being a member of the Wilton Police Explorers and a candidate for a criminal justice degree from Western Connecticut State University.

"I couldn't think of a better town to do this in," Andronaco said after he was administered the oath of office by Greenwich First Selectman Peter Tesei, who's also the town's police commissioner.

"Nothing is more invigorating than to administer the oath of office to police and fire recruits," Tesei said. "Maintaining life safety is essential."

Andronaco will receive his six-month training stint at the Bridgeport Police Department Academy, according to Police Chief James Heavey.

"We provide instructors in exchange for a seat in the academy. So some of your instructors will be officers from the department," Heavey said. "Not to put any pressure on you but our last six recruits, three finished number one in their class," he added.

Andronaco's mother Gretchen said, "He's worked really, really, really hard for this. He's been really focused. We have a family business (Andronaco Excavating & Anderson's Septic Service) but he didn't want to take it over. He wanted this from the beginning."

And by the way, Andronaco was issued Badge # 159.
