Woman Allegedly Stiffed Cab Driver on $50 Fare

Greenwich Police reports for Feb. 19

Clare Ettinger, 53, of Hastings on Hudson, NY, was arrested and charged with sixth degree larceny on Tuesday, Feb. 19, after she allegedly stiffed a cab driver over an approximately $50 fare.

Police said the cab driver reported that he had picked up Ettinger at the Greenwich Train Station and that she asked to be driven to a friend's house in the Byram area.

Unable to locate her friend's house, Ettinger then asked the cab driver to bring her to the supermarket, where she would withdraw funds to pay the fare.

However after they arrived at the supermarket, Ettinger informed that cab driver that she did not have funds to pay the fare.

Police said Ettinger admitted she had entered the cab knowing that she did not have the funds to pay for it. She is scheduled to appear in court on Feb. 27.
