Energy Assistance Available for Eligible Town Residents

The Greenwich Department of Social Services is reminding residents that there is help with energy bills for those facing hardship, particularly in these difficult economic times.

Here is the announcement with all the information you need:

The State of Connecticut has several energy programs that assist in ensuring the safety of residents.  The Town of Greenwich also offers some assistance to Greenwich residents. Income guidelines for most programs are 60% of State Median Income or lower.*  

The Energy Assistance Program runs through May 1, 2013. Residents are encouraged to apply early. Eligible households are able to apply for the following programs:

• CT Energy Assistance Program – Energy assistance paid directly to heating vendors, or cash payment when heat is included in the rent.

• Winter Protection Program – Utility service cannot be disconnected from hardship customers for non-payment from Nov. 1 through May 1.

• Operation Fuel – Emergency energy assistance paid directly to the household heating fuel or utility service company. Can be used toward heat and non-heat utility.  

For information regarding the energy programs, call the Greenwich Department of Social Services at 203-622-3800.  Eligible residents meet with a caseworker who determines the best program for them based on program criteria. The caseworker will also assist with the application process.
