Food for a Good Cause [Video]

Town employees give a ton of food - literally - to annual drive for Salvation Army.

Greenwich town employees have an appetite for helping.

Thanks to the generosity of employees including the LIUNA union about 2,000 pounds of food was donated Thursday during the 6th annual Greenwich Service Unit of the Salvation Army ’s food drive coordinated by the and benefits the town’s Social Services Department. The conference table, and several crates and loading dollies in the Gisborne Room of Town Hall were laden with donations. Last year's drive netted about 1,600.

Social Services Community Gifts Coordinator Allison Brush will coordinate distribution of non-perishable foods ranging from pasta, soups, cereals and other canned goods, to household goods including paper towels, detergents and even diapers.

Employees dropped off bags of donations throughout the day and LIUNA members contributed $1,550 and obtained a $100 gift card from Stop & Shop to purchase more food stuffs and non-perishable goods.
