Greenwich Town Planner Diane Fox To Retire

The woman who has led the development and planning for the Town of Greenwich for more than three decades is retiring.

In an statement from the Town of Greenwich on May 1, Town Planner Diane Fox announced that after "33 years of service to the Town of Greenwich, (she) has decided to retire effective Tuesday, July 1, 2014."

Fox has served as Greenwich’s town planner and director of Planning and Zoning for 19 years. She began her tenure more than 30 years ago as a planner in the Planning and Zoning Department. Over the years, Fox rose through the ranks and oversaw many changes and challenges, including the merger of Zoning Enforcement into the Planning and Zoning Department. Fox also facilitated the computerization of the Planning and Zoning offices, increasing the efficiency of the application tracking process.

In a statement, Fox says that she "takes pride in the two 10-year Plans of Conservation and Development (1998 and 2009), the Byram Comprehensive Plan, and the soon to be adopted Cos Cob Neighborhood Plans that she architected. All of these plans aim to provide the Town and its residents with a direction for future capital projects and goals."

Fox, a Greenwich resident, also said she wanted to express her gratitude to all town departments and staff for their support and help over the years.

First Selectman Peter J. Tesei said, “I respect the work Diane has done in her tenure with the Town of Greenwich and I wish her well in her future endeavors.”

Tesei said he expect deputy Planning and Zoning Director Katie Blankley to serve as interim director while a search for a successor is conducted.

The Department of Human Resources will be working with the Planning and Zoning Commission and Town staff to review the Town Planner job description, and arrange the process for recruiting Ms. Fox’s successor.
