Attention Byram Drivers ... the town's traffic and parking divisions have received the unanimous support of the Board of Selectmen to impose one-way traffic on New Lebanon Avenue.

The popular, narrow short-cut from Delavan Avenue to Williams Street is scheduled to become a one-way roadway soon. Drivers will be able to access New Lebanon Avenue only southbound from Delavan Avenue. Traffic engineers discovered problems along the one-block road while surveying the neighborhood for sidewalks.

Officials said that in addition to residents parking in the area, patrons of the Byram Veterans Club and Burgers, Shakes & Fries, often park on the street and the curb and sidewalks, reducing pedestrian access. Engineers told the selectmen that making the road one-way only will greatly improve pedestrian safety. (Stay tuned for implementation date.)
