Romeo Elected Chairman of Greenwich Housing Authority

Republican Sam Romeo has been elected chairman of the Greenwich Housing Authority.

At the authority's June 25 meeting, Romeo was unanimously elected by the seven-member board, succeeding fellow Republican George Yankowich.

Romeo said he is looking forward to completion of several renovation projects at the authority's complexes, including the addition of 11 new units at the Adams Gardens apartments and the renovation of all kitchens in the 80-unit complex., as well as a major redesign of the Greenwich Close apartment complex on Field Point Road.

"We're constantly creating affordable housing in town — this has been a such a rewarding experience for me," said Romeo, whose civil service includes long tenures on the Board of Estimate and Taxation and the Representative Town Meeting.

"I can't say enough about the employees of the Housing Authority and about George Yankowich who's done a yeoman's job during the 12 years he's served on the Housing Authority," Romeo added.

Romeo has completed his second year of a five-year term on the authority which manages nearly 900 housing units throughout town.
