Some Greenwich Parks Fees to Rise

Board of Selectmen to vote Dec. 15 on proposed 2012 fees to use Greenwich recreational facilities.

The Board of Selectmen is poised to vote on the proposed 2012 parks and recreation fee schedule on Dec. 15 - a proposal that includes a $1 a day increase in greens fees at the and 50-cent per foot increase in wharfage fees at the town-owned .

The proposed fee schedule was introduced at the Dec. 1 selectmen's meeting and First Selectman Peter Tesei said expects the board to vote on the proposal at its Dec. 15 meeting in Town Hall.

"It's fees for service. We are providing recreational services and our costs go up ... employee salaries, insurance, maintenance. The consumer pays for the cost," Tesei explained.

"The beach fees will remain the same," Tesei said. The resident beach pass will cost $30 for adults; $5 for children. Day passes for non-residents remain at $5. Ferry fares also will remain the same — $4 for residents, $10 for non-residents who also must purchase a $5 day pass.

At the town-owned Griffith Harris Golf Course on King Street, some fees will increase. The season memberships will increase $20 — to $165 for adults; to $110 for seniors; to $165 for town employees. Greens fees will increase $1 on weekdays and $2 on weekends and holidays. Golfers now pay $24 on weekdays; $28 on weekends and holidays; for seniors, the current fees are $17 on weekdays and $28 on weekends and holidays.

At the municipal Grass Island Marina, boaters will see summer trailer storage fees increase by $25 to $200 and wharfage fees increase 50 cents a foot to $15.50.
