State Rep. Fred Camillo (R-151) continues to be active with his campaign to end distracted driving with his new appointment to the Distracted Driving Prevention Task Force. The appointment came in an official letter from House Minority Leader Larry Cafero (R-142) last week.

“I am grateful to House Minority Leader Cafero for this appointment. I look forward to working with my colleagues and continuing to be an advocate for safer driving and to place Connecticut at the forefront of driver safety in the nation,” said Rep. Camillo (R-151).

The taskforce was formed as part of the new Distracted Driving law (Public Act No. 13-271). The task force will study issues concerning the prevention of distracted driving in the state. As such, it will evaluate the effectiveness of existing laws prohibiting distracted driving, examine distracted driving enforcement, consider any federal efforts to prevent distracted driving, consider any distracted driving efforts in other states, and develop recommendations, including any necessary legislative changes, to prevent distracted driving in Connecticut. Rep. Camillo’s term on the task force is effective immediately and will terminate upon submission of the final report or January 1st, 2014, whichever is later.

Rep. Camillo lead the charge last session along with Rep. David Scribner (R-107) to take the first step in cracking down on Connecticut’s distracted driving laws. The Bill, “An Act Considering Motor Vehicle Insurance Providers and Distracted Driving,” went into effect on July 1st.
