'Town Hall Talk' Takes a Look at the Week Ahead

Malloy's budget barnstorming; BET budget hearing and decision day this week's highlights.

It's going to be a busy week here in Greenwich starting with Gov. Dannel Malloy's continued budget barnstorming tour across the state that comes to the Eastern Middle School in Riverside this evening.

The 7 p.m. meeting is expected to draw such a large crowd that the location was moved from Town Hall to the Middle School auditorium, 51 Hendrie Ave. in Riverside because of its larger audience and parking capacity.

Budgets continue to headline the week on Tuesday when the Board of Estimate and Taxation hold its public hearing on the proposed $359 million budget for 2011-2012. Attendance is expected to be high and attendees vocal as the board takes comments what capital projects should be approved.

The town's 12-member fiscal board - evenly divided between Democrats and Republicans - faces many issues including whether to fund a new $24 million Central Fire Station and the $28.8 million MISA or Music Instructional Space and Auditorium project at Greenwich High School. At the BET's budget committee meetings earlier this month, neither project won a majority of support.

Both BET meetings will begin at 7 p.m. in the Town Hall Meeting Room.
