Who's In For a Greenwich Birthday Party?

The Board of Selectmen are seeking volunteers and sponsors for the town's upcoming 375th anniversary of its founding.

Celebrating a monumental birthday or anniversary takes some planning.

And, even though it's two years away, Greenwich town officials want to get a jump start in planning a celebration of the 375th anniversary of the town's founding. Officially—mark your calendars—the 375th will be July 18, 2015.

"It's a monumental anniversary. I think we should start to organize a committee to plan an appropriate celebration," said First Selectman Peter Tesei.

Every year the town marks Founder's Day with a flag-raising and a presentation of a proclamation.

The last 'monumental' celebration was back in 1990 for the town's 350th anniversary. There were several events—along with the publication of a book about the town's history—that culminated with a parade down Greenwich Avenue.

Anyone interested in getting involved in planning or sponsoring events should contact the selectmen's office at 203 622-7710 or email them at Peter.Tesei@greenwichct.org, dmarzullo@greenwichct.org and dtheis@greenwichct.org.
