The Night Sky: Bowman Observatory New Telescope

Help the Astronomical Society of Greenwich bring the Bowman observatory up to 21rst century technology.

The Astronomical Society of Greenwich has operated the Bowman observatory on public viewing nights since 1986 as volunteers. Public viewing nights are on the second and fourth Tuesdays of the month, weather permitting. Viewing hours are from 8-10pm The Bowman observatory is owned by the Greenwich Board of Education and is located on the grounds of Julian Curtiss School.

The Astronomical Society of Greenwich (ASG) is raising money to install a new state of the art telescope at the Bowman observatory. The ASG will purchase the necessary equipment and donate it to the BOE. When installed, the new telescope will make the Bowman observatory one of the best in the area, offering inspiring views of the Moon, planets, and beyond. Students, parents, residents, and the general public will all benefit from the improved capabilities of the telescope upgrade.

The Bowman Observatory has a history of serving our community that dates back as far as the 1940s. Visitors from as far away as Japan have enjoyed views of the night sky at the Bowman observatory. See the attached pictures of the Bowman observatory through the years from 1968, 1986, and 2012. A picture of the new telescope is also attached. Help the Astronomical Society of Greenwich bring the Bowman observatory up to 21rst century technology.
