What exactly do you do musically?

I DJ house music and I produce it as well. I started off making mash-ups, which is when combinations of multiple songs are compacted into one, and then I moved onto creating remixes and original mixes. That’s some of the stuff you hear from artists such as Avicii and Sweedish House Mafia.

When did you first become interested in music?

Last summer. It’s been about a year since I’ve entered the music world.

Did you start to DJ or produce music first?

I actually started with producing my own music, which led me into the performing aspect of it.

What inspired you to start producing music?

My influences have been a big part of my musical career from day one. I’ve always been into music, but house music specifically when I realized that you didn’t really need a huge background of instruments, such as knowing how to play the guitar, drums, and etcetera. I started off with the mindset that if they can do this, I can do this, and then began trying to teach myself the piano. I took a couple of lessons here and there and then once I learned the basics, I just started learning the programs and it all took off. If it weren’t for the influences that I had, I would have had a very small drive.

Who were some of your influences at the time?

I’m was and still am a huge fan of Avicii. I also love Danny Avila, Alesso, and Showtek.

Can you explain how DJ-ing works? What exactly do you do?

Sure. So house music is no different every other kind of music, you just need to know how to make a buildup, a melody, and a breakdown. The way that works is that unlike a recording studio, where most music is produced, all you really need is a laptop. There are many different programs you can use to make house music, but I use one that’s called Logic Pro. Basically the workflow of the program is a bunch of sounds played at the same time to create one good sound. You have a baseline in every track and you also have a synth. The piano is the background of a house track and once you add synth, you can change the sound of it, which is how you hear more of an electric sound in house music rather than a classical piano. That’s kind of how the production aspect of it works.

Wow, that seems difficult. Did you teach yourself all this?

Absolutely. I watched a couple Youtube videos for some help, but that’s pretty much it. I taught myself everything else.

How do you put your music out there?

Internet has been a huge help for me. I’ve gained support from over ten blogs and they’ve helped by posting about my music. I also just released an EP on iTunes through Milli Records, which was huge for me. It gave me the ability to send official iTunes and Amazon links to different people who may want to support me, such as labels. That’s how I found the current label I’m on. I also use Soundcloud, iTunes, blogs, and just word of mouth to get my name out there.

I read that you’ve opened up for some big names like Hardwell, Audien, and Hoodie Allen. What was that like?

Those were all tremendous opportunities for me. Each venue differed the experience. Opening for Hardwell, the number 6 DJ in the world right now, at a club in New York City was incredible. It was a sold out event and was absolutely insane. I felt so honored and privileged to open for someone as prestigious as he is, and it was also an incredible opportunity for me because I was able to expose my name. I’ve done some smaller stuff with some smaller DJs, like Kapslap, who is still a known name but just at a smaller venue with a different kind of atmosphere. Each event differed on how it affected me personally, but every event was a good experience and I’m truly blessed to have had those opportunities.

What has been your favorite show that you’ve played so far? (And why?)

Probably the Hardwell show. I had a lot of my friends out there and it was a packed house in New York City, which has a huge music market. That was actually where I met some people who have really pushed my career. Some people there even wanted me to book me again, so that was an awesome night.

If you could play a show with any artist, who would it be?

I would say Danny Avila. Besides the fact that he’s a great artist, we’re very close in age. He’s seventeen and I turn seventeen in October. We’d be able to show some teen talent and performing with such an amazing artist would be an incredible opportunity for me.

Do you have any goals or plans for the future?

Yes, I do. My goal is to open for the person who really got me going when it comes to house music, which is Avicii. If I had the opportunity to share the stage with him it would be life changing. I’d also like to get signed by a label known as Stivin Records. They’re kind of the biggest label in the name right now, so if I got signed by them that would be a huge accomplishment.
