Barbara Walters Donates News Archives to Sarah Lawrence College

Barbara Walters' career spanned five decades, during which time she became one of the country's most famous television news journalists.

Legendary television news journalist is gifting her archives of tapes, photographs and papers to alma mater Sarah Lawrence College, the school announced at commencement ceremonies over the weekend.

Walters, who retired this year from her show The View, is one of the most recognized and celebrated television news personalities of the last 40 years, and her gift will lead to the creation of the Barbara Walters Archive at the Bronxville-based school.

“We are thrilled by this new gift from our extraordinary alumna so that her legacy can be shared with students, scholars, and beyond,” said Sarah Lawrence College President Karen Lawrence.

Walters appearance at the commencement - and the gift of her archives - was a surprise and nearly stole the event from commencement speaker, CNN international journalist Fareed Zakaria.
