Cycling Safely at North Street School

From North Street School.

North Street School (NSS) rounded up its herd and held a bike rodeo at the school on Saturday, June 7 to help kids gain bicycling skills and learn rules of the road in a fun, safe environment.

Children improved bicycling competence by riding on several simulated skill and safety stations such as start and stop exercise, the safe way to exit a driveway, how to look for traffic, negotiate an intersection and how to avoid common road hazards.

Several local organizations volunteered and assisted NSS's PTA in the event included Greenwich Cycling; Connecticut Safe Routes to School, which  gave a bike safety presentation to each of the groups before they started the obstacle course. Greenwich Bicycles , Greenwich Police Silver Shield Association and the Greenwich Police Explorers, which all handled bike and helmet inspections for the event.

In addition, Northeast Community Cycles, a local non- profit organization, accepted used donated bicycles at the event which they will fix up, clean and give to needy children and adults.
