AuthorsLive with Bill Bryson

In an unusual move, there will be no Friday Film tonight so we may bring you this unprecedented opportunity to hear and meet the best selling American-born humorist Bill Bryson in one of the 5 cities he will visit in this speaking tour. Travelling all the way from London, Mr. Bryson will talk about his current book, AT HOME, as well as others he has written including NOTES FROM A SMALL ISLAND, THE LIFE AND TIMES OF THE THUNDERBOLT KID, A WALK IN THE WOODS (THE APPALACHIAN TRAIL), I'M A STRANGER HERE MYSELF, A SHORT HISTORY OF NEARLY EVERYTHING, IN A SUNBURNED COUNTRY and BRYSON'S DICTIONARY OF TROUBLESOME WORDS. Author Bryson is known for exploring far-flung places. His books cover the Australian outback, his childhood in Indiana, the Appalachian Trail-even the history of the universe. He received the prestigious Aventis prize for Science Books (Stephen Hawking was another recipient) for A Short History of Nearly Everything. Bryson found inspiration for his most recent book after a hike through his own old Victorian house in England. At Home: A Short History of Private Life, released in 2010, is a book which Bryson says uses his own house as a jumping off point to explore the general history of domesticity everywhere.

Among his bestselling titles are A Walk in the Woods, Notes from a Small Island, In a Sunburned Country, Bryson's Dictionary of Troublesome Words, and The Life and Times of the Thunderbolt Kid. Bryson lives in England with his wife and children.

Bill Bryson has one of the funniest, liveliest, and most inquisitive minds on the planet, and he is a master at turning the seemingly isolated or mundane fact into an occasion for the most diverting exposition imaginable. The Greenwich Library is his kickoff venue on a tour of the US this fall!

Mr. Bryson will answer questions, chat with you afterwards and sign copies of his book that will be available for sale through Diane's books.
