Freund Named CT School Superintendent of the Year

CT Parent Teacher Student Association selects Greenwich schools leader for its inaugural award.

Greenwich School Superintendent Dr. Sidney A. Freund has been named the State of Connecticut Parent Teacher Student Association (CT PTSA) Outstanding Superintendent of the Year for 2011.

Freund was nominated for this award in its inaugural year by the Greenwich PTA Council.

In recommending Freund for this recognition, the PTA Council cited his impact on the district's environment, his focus on results and his out-reach program which resulted in the establishment of strong relationships with a wide-ranging group of stakeholders including parents, teachers, Town Officials and civic organizations. The nominating letter noted Dr. Freund's tireless efforts on behalf of the students, his constant presence at individual schools and his infectious enthusiasm for learning which has re-invigorated the staff throughout the District.

Upon hearing the news of this honor, Freund said in a prepared statement, “I am deeply honored and humbled by the distinction bestowed on me by the CT State PTSA. The Greenwich Council of PTAs is a hard working, dedicated group of parents who tirelessly work for the children of our District.

"This acknowledgement is a testimony to the entire administration and parents of the district of the successful partnership we have established on behalf of the children of the Greenwich Public Schools. I am proud of our accomplishments. I truly believe that there isn't anything we can't achieve through our partnership and I look forward to our on-going efforts to support our children's education."

Freund will be receive the award at the CT PTSA annual convention on April 1 in Southbury. Also, Freund will be recognized at the March 24 Board of Education monthly meeting at Julian Curtiss School.
