Greenwich High School PTA Benefit Was "A Night on the Towne"

Nearly 400 attend fund-raiser to support scholarship, education and tech programs.

It was more than "A Night on the Towne" recently when Greenwich High School parents, faculty and supporters gathered at Richards of Greenwich for the school's PTA Benefit.

The crowd of 400 enjoyed an evening of fun and fundraising that included Headmaster Chris Winters and Superintendent of Schools Dr. Sidney Freund.  Guests sampled an array of delectable hors d’oeuvres by Fairway Market, including beef and chicken satays, jumbo shrimp, smoked salmon, sushi rolls and caviar.

Throughout the evening guests browsed the silent and live auction displays filled with hundreds of items donated by Greenwich area merchants and GHS families and friends. "Wishing Well" volunteers offered another fun way to participate in the night's activities and support the PTA.

Veteran New York television news reporter and anchor Kendra Farn, and her husband Noah Finz, sports director and anchor at WTNH-TV in New Haven, served as auctioneers for the live auction, which featured a cocktail cruise around the Statue of Liberty on a 62-foot yacht; a stay at Teton Mountain Lodge in Jackson Hole, WY; a weekend getaway in a Bentley to Winvian Resort in Litchfield Hills;  two private guided tours at the Brant Foundation Art Study Center - one with artist Josh Smith and the second with artist David Altmejd; and Fairway Market's "Catered to the Nines," 9 separate catered parties at a value of $560 each.

Benefit Co-Chairs George Von Tobel and Mamie Lee, Auction Chair Jennifer Petersen, and a committee of 50 parent volunteers worked tirelessly to ensure the event's success. The PTA acknowledges the generous support from 2011 Benefit sponsors Richards of Greenwich, Fairway Market, Dawson Design, Vermont Spirits, and Heineken. For the second consecutive year, Scott Mitchell graciously hosted the event and Richards of Greenwich donated the use of their store for the venue. The recently opened Fairway Market in Stamford provided their generous community support for the catering, wine, live auction donation, and event planning. Fairway Market representatives assisting at the event included VP Marketing Jackie Donovan; Marketing Manager Nancy Gallin; District Manager of Food Services Adam Miller; Catering Manager Diane Russo, and Kitchen Manager Franklin DeJesus.

After the festivities at Richards, guests dined at  Asiana Cafe, Barcelona Restaurant, L'Escale, Morello Bistro, Penang Grill, Pierangelo, Polpo Restaurant and Saloon, Sonora, Thai Basil Restaurant, and Versailles Bistro & Patisserie, which contributed to the fund-drive.

The benefit will fund PTA initiatives - Arts-in-Education (helping to subsidize nearly every field trip), Student Outreach (bringing equity in education to students needing prep courses, tutoring, college fees and more), and scholarships ($36,500 to be awarded this spring). The PTA also funds technology items.
