The "Sold Out" sign was expected. Everything else was a surprise. SuperShow 2013 at Central Middle School, an inclusive show that holds no auditions, was as funny as it was extravagant.
One part drama, two parts comedy and song, punctuated by professionally choreographed dance routines, the show included over a hundred singers, dancers and actors.
The performance was broken down along four entertainment themes: Television, Internet, Academy Award Movies and Broadway. The audience was broken into two super hero themes — Superman and Wonder Woman versus Batman and Batwoman — each rooting for the act that would gain a point for their half of the auditorium.
The cast included CMS middle schoolers as well as elementary school students from North Street School, Cos Cob School and Julian Curtiss. Back for the 5th year was the Colgate 13, an a cappella singing group from Colgate University.
Other surprise highlights from the show included an appearance by dancers from "Dynamic Rockers from Queens" and a hilarious rendition of It's Raining Men by Central Middle School's 8th grade boys. There was a lot of fun dancing and singing, including a group of CMS staff who got in on the fun, plus guest appearances by show alumni at Greenwich High School.
Maybe SuperShow should be renamed The Show That Never Sleeps. Director, Anne Beaty, is already coming up with fresh material for SuperShow 2014.
