Veteran Westport Educator Tapped as Assistant Principal at Dundee School

Patricia Finnegan to begin duties Aug. 15.

Late Thursday, Greenwich Superintendent of Schools Dr. Sidney A. Freund announced the appointment of Patricia A. Finnegan as the assistant principal for The International School at Dundee (ISD), effective Aug. 15.

Here is the statement released by the Greenwich Public Schools:

"Finnegan has been an elementary school educator for 14 years in the Westport Public Schools. Freund said, “Ms. Finnegan impressed us with her understanding of the K-5 continuum of learning, her various leadership roles, and her experience in a number of the programs and strategies that we are focused on in the District and at ISD. These include inquiry- based instruction, the workshop model, Response to Intervention, Everyday Math, and Spanish language instruction. We believe she will be an excellent match for the ISD community and look forward to welcoming her to Greenwich.”

"Ms. Finnegan began teaching elementary-age students in early 1997 in the Westport Public Schools as a long- term substitute. Beginning with the 1997-98 school year, she became a kindergarten teacher for the extended day program and provided academic support in literacy and math for students in grades 1 – 5.

'In addition to her work as a classroom teacher, Ms. Finnegan also took on numerous leadership roles in the school. In 2000 she helped to develop a program to introduce Spanish Language instruction to students beginning in Kindergarten as a member of the Elementary Spanish Language Design Team.

'From 2000 to 2008, she was the Math Representative for the school, overseeing curriculum implementation of the Everyday Math program, and math curriculum reviews, and providing instructional support. Since 2003, Ms. Finnegan has been a Science Curriculum Leader for the District at the Kindergarten level, implementing inquiry-based science curriculum and providing staff development.

"She has also acted as the Literacy Representative since 2008, collaborating with colleagues in implementing the workshop model and to develop consistency in K-5 literacy practices. She is a trained TEAM Coordinating Committee Member, a Responsive Classroom teacher leader trainee, and an RTI Apprentice.

"Ms. Finnegan received a Bachelor of Science in accounting from Fordham University, Bronx, NY in 1976; a Master of Science in Education from Bridgeport University, Bridgeport, CT in 1996; and she received a Master of Education in Educational Leadership from Columbia University’s Teachers College, New York, NY in 2009."
