Updated 4:45 p.m.:

Poll moderators in Greenwich say voter turnout is strong and they anticipate an even stronger push as residents vote as they return home from work.

In District 4, vote tabulator and assistant moderator Anthony Bardliving said turnout “is more than 2009” with about 15 percent of voters coming out to New Lebanon School, by about 12:30 p.m.  By 4 p.m., about 22 percent, or 524, of the district’s 2,415 registered voters in the western side of town, cast their ballots.

On the eastern end of Greenwich, moderators at Old Greenwich School said extrapolating the votes cast, they estimated 45 percent of that District 6 voters would exercise their Constitutional right.

As of 4 p.m., 884 of the eligible 2,873 voters went to the polls, according to numbers released by the Registrars of Voters.

District 6 Moderator Gifford Reed said there were the usual problems voters having changed their address without notifying the registrars and some confusion with ballots. Reed said some voters were unsure of the number of votes they could cast for the selectmen’s race and for the Board of Education. He suggested that perhaps future ballots include more explicit directions.

There were about 30 “spoiled” ballots – ballots that had to be discarded - in District 6 because of the confusion.

By 4 p.m., the overall town vote total was 8,399 or 25 percent of the 33,893 registered voters.

Officials said typical Greenwich voter turnout is 40 percent in local elections; 60 percent for statewide elections and about 80 percent for presidential elections.

Updated 9:50 a.m.:

As of 9 a.m., voter turnout show 2,404 residents have cast ballots at the town's 12 polling places, according to numbers released by the Greenwich Registrars of Voters.

That calculates to be about 7 percent of the Greenwich's 33,893 registered voters who went to the polls between 6 and 9 a.m.

Original story:

On Election Day Nov. 8, 2011 polls will be open from 6 a.m. until 8 p.m. for registered voters in Connecticut.

Because many of the town's polling places are located in Greenwich Public Schools, those schools are closed for classes today. Each of the town's 12 polling places are listed below.

Each voting district ballot is different because of the Representative Town Meeting candidates. (For a list of each of the RTM candidates, please see the ballots PDF at right.)
