Brunswick Alum Helps Battle Cancer With Armonk Tennis Tournament

Irwin Reibeisen and Sam King will hold their first-ever Charity Open, from Aug. 5-7.

For Irwin Reibeisen and Sam King, tennis represents a positive and constructive way to fight cancer, which has affected members from each of their families.

"It just impacted both of us," said Reibeisen.

With this in mind, the two will hold the first ever The King-Reibeisen Charity Open, from Aug. 5 to 7, at Byram Hills High School in Armonk. The three-day open will feature a string of events, including men's and women's tournaments, a free junior tennis clinic, a silent auction and free food from several area businesses.

Reibeisen, an Armonk resident and Byram Hills graduate, said he and King, a Rye Brook resident who graduated from Brunswick School in Greenwich, had always wanted to do a tennis tournament, and decided it was something they wanted to do this summer. The two are both home from college; Reibeisen attends Bucknell University, while King goes to Bowdoin College

The goal for the tournament is to raise $5,000 and donate it to the American Cancer Society, which is known for supporting Relay for Life overnight benefits.

It is hoped that people from all over the area plan to come, based on Facebook comments from people who have confirmed they are attending.

A number of businesses in Westchester are providing support. For example, silent auction businesses giving prizes include The Bedford Diner, Armonk's Hickory & Tweed, and The Gym. Eateries giving away free food include Bellizzi and Frannie's Goodie Shop in Mount Kisco.
