8th Grade

The 8th Grade Wildcats journeyed to beautiful Tiger Hollow Stadium this past Saturday night and slipped past Ridgefield 22 – 16 in an all-out nail biter.

It was the second meeting this season between these two talented squads.  In the first outing last month, Ridgefield’s stubborn defense shut down the Wildcats with a 15 – 0 win.  This time around, it was the Wildcats’ turn, as their impressive all-around play and indomitable will to win, ultimately sealed the victory.

An impressive catch by Conor Ginley and run by Timmy Jacobi put the Cats within the one-yard line in the second quarter.  After three unsuccessful attempts, quarterback Matt Cerminaro plied across the goal line for the first score of the game.  Cerminaro then found Justin Keith in the end zone for the two-point conversion and an 8 – 0 lead.

Not to be outdone, an undaunted Ridgefield team quickly retaliated to tie the score at the half 8 – 8.

In the second half, Josh Evans made the most of his brief stint as quarterback by muscling his way past the stubborn Ridgefield line for the Cats’ second TD.  Evans capped his run with an extra two points, giving the Wildcats a 16 – 8 lead.   But the celebration didn’t last long, as once again, a resolute Ridgefield offense answered with a laser-like drive that evened things up.

The Cats struck gold with less than two minutes remaining in the game. Jack Curtis took a handoff from Evans and exploded through the line for a dazzling 65 yard game winning touchdown.  Wildcats win 22 – 16.

Come cheer on the Wildcats this Saturday at noon as they battle Darien White at Darien High School for the AFC Championship.
