Greenwich's LJ Mazzilli Named Big East Player of the Week

Greenwich's LJ Mazzilli,  a junior second baseman on the University of Connecticut baseball team, has been named the Big East Player of the Week.

For the week, Mazzilli batted .462 (6-for-13) with a .611 on-base percentage and an .846 slugging percentage as the Huskies went 2-2 at the Nike Showcase.

Mazzilli has hit safely in 13 of UConn's first 14 games, batting .302 with a team-high 11 runs scored and seven RBI.

Greenwich's Sean Obi, who helped lead the Greens Farms Academy boys basketball team to an 18-5 record, has been named to the Fairchester Athletic Association first team.

Obi has averaged a double-double in every game he has played for the Green Dragons, who earned a berth in the New England Prep School Athletic Council Class C championship tournament.

GFA's Brien Comey of Westport earned a spot on the all-honorable mention teams.

Other first-team picks included Darren Payen, Vic Joshua and B.J. Davis of Hamden Hall; Alex Gendleman and Tyler Fernandez of Rye Country Day; Laurent Firlotte and Lucas Hausman of Hopkins; Norwalk's Drew Sawyer of King; Brunswick's Billy Murphy and Greg Braithaite of the Masters School.

Joining Comey on the honorable mention squad were Darryl Best and Greg Brown of Hamden Hall; Devin Mehra of Brunswick; Matt Reggina and Chris Gaynor of King; Fairfield's Nolan Paige and Darren O'Brien of Hopkins; Jalen Latta of St. Luke's Darrren Douglas and Staubi of Rye Country; and Tim Ritzenstein and Mark Zientek of the Masters School.
