Greenwich's David Pastore fell to Sam Bernstein of the Century 2 and 1 in the quarterfinals of the 109th Met Amateur Championship on Friday at the Piping Rock Country Club in Locust Valley, N.Y.

Pastore, who plays out of Griff Harris, tied for fifth in qualifying with a 36-hole total 139 (66-73).

Pastore then defeated Shorehaven's Tommy McDonagh 4 and 3 in the first round of match play on Friday morning.

Bernstein finished fourth in qualifying with a 138 (70-68).

Greenwich Cannons players’ Dylan Callahan, Brian Schutzman and Taylor Olmstead participated in the recent Rawlings American Legion Futures All-Star Game.

The game took place at Simsbury Memorial Field on Saturday. The three Senior Legion players were selected to represent Zone Four and compete against other prospects from throughout the state.

The Futures game is an annual event that features the top players in Connecticut who are legitimate college or pro prospects, attracting up to 60 coaches and recruiting personnel.

Central Connecticut senior Charles Williams has been named to the preseason all-Northeast Conference defensive first team.

The 6-2, 235-pound lineman lettered in basketball and football at Greenwich High School.

Central Connecticut, which has won four Northeast Conference titles since 2004, was picked first in the coaches' preseason poll.

The Blue Devils were 8-3 overall and 7-1 in NEC play last season. It marked their second straight season with a 7-1 mark in league action. They finished in a tie for the league title with Robert Morris, but lost a tie-breaker with the Colonials for the league's automatic bid to the playoffs.
