The Stanwich seventh- and eighth-grade girls basketball team recently defeated Holy Child 25-15 for its second straight victory.

On the first possession of the game, Brenna Carbone got fouled taking the ball to the hoop and converted her first free throw to put Stanwich on the board 20 seconds into the contest.

After the first point, Stanwich never looked back.  Barbara Duncan and Cami Lavoie pressured the Holy Child guards, causing several turnovers, which Emily Moran converted into points for Stanwich.

Taryn Henderson, Bridget Bojic, Arden Orwicz and Daisy Mayer led the rebounding effort for the Cougars, who never trailed. Alina Maki made a deep basket at the buzzer to give Stanwich a 10-point lead after the third quarter.

Stanwich will be back in action on Tuesday when its takes on Greenwich Catholic at 3:30 p.m. at the Stamford Athletic Club.

Please see the Parks and Recreation Small Fry program for information for those children.

The program will meet on Saturday afternoons from April 28 through June 9 at the Bendheim Western Greenwich Civic Center Field. Each Saturday afternoon there will be a practice and a three-inning game.

Greenwich improved to 8-1 and clinched a berth in the CIAC Class LL state tournament with a 57-25 victory over Darien on Thursday.

Norwalk snapped a two-game slide and improved to 6-3 with a 60-51 victory over Fairfield Ludlowe on Thursday.

Norwalk features a balanced attack with five players averaging at least 8.8 points per game.
