Considering it only won four games last year, no one will argue that the Greenwich boys basketball team hasn't been the biggest surprise in the FCIAC so far this season.

Greenwich (9-2, 7-2) is tied with Trinity Catholic (whom the Cardinals have beaten) for the third-best record in the FCIAC behind undefeated St. Joseph and Ridgefield (which defeated Greenwich).

But now the Cardinals will begin a stretch, starting with Tuesday's game at Bridgeport Central (7 p.m.), that will determine just how good they are.

Greenwich has another tough contest on Friday against Westhill and still has games remaining against Bassick, St. Joseph and Danbury.

Bridgeport Central (5-3, 5-3) likes to play a fast pace, so the Hilltoppers could privide a test for Greenwich's stingy defense.

While the Hilltoppers were held under 70 points in Friday's 69-44 romp of Trumbull, they have been involved in some  high-scoring games this season, losing to Danbury 109-106 in double overtime and 88-82 to Bassick last week.

With its size advantage, Greenwich likely will want to control the tempo as the Cardinals have been comfortable playing games in the 40s and 50s.

The Greenwich girls basketball team (2-11) snapped an 11-game losing streak with a 65-34 victory over Harding on Friday and will have a chance for another win when it visits Bridgeport Central (5:30 p.m.).

The Hilltoppers (2-11) are coming off a 64-22 loss to Trumbull on Friday. Their only two victories have come against winless Bassick.
