Greenwich midfielder David Dickson was one of 15 boys lacrosse players from Connecticut to earn All-America honors. He also earned first team All-State honors.

Other Greenwich players named to the All-State team include:  Stephen Dodd,first team attack; Adam Sands, first team defense; Dan Feeney, second team goalie.

-- Five members of Greenwich boys tennis team earned FCIAC honors.  Tyler Kratky, who lost to Staples' Dan Hirschberg in the Class LL state finals, was named to the first team while Michael Grund and C.J. Purse earned a spot on the doubles second team.

Andrew Blumberg and Ari Cepelewicz received honorable mention status in singles.

-- Greenwich's Will Haslun was named to the all-FCIAC boys volleyball second team.Greg Conarroe was an honorable mention pick.

-- The Greenwich senior American Legion team defeated Norwalk 4-2 Thursday in an early battle for first place in Zone Four. The win gave the Cannons (6-1) a one-game lead over Norwalk (5-2) in the standings.

Last season, Norwalk edge Greenwich for the Zone Four title with two late wins over the Cannons.

-- The Greenwich football team will conduct its annual Red and White game on Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon with a tailgate to follow.

The Greenwich Quarterback Club is starting a new tradition this season in which it will  auction off NFL-authentic football memorabilia at eight events, starting with the Red and White game.

Other auctions with take place at the Sept. 6 kickoff night, the five home games and the team's awards banquet on Dec. 8.

On Saturday, the first items to be auctioned include:

-- The book "Glory Game", the story of the 1958 NFL championship, autographed by Frank Gifford;

-- A New Orleans Saints' hat autographed by Archie Manning

-- A New York Yankees baseball autographed by David Cone, who pitched a perfect game.

On future dates, the following items will be auctioned:  

-- Game-used NFL football from February's Super Bowl XLV, Green Bay vs. Pittsburgh in Cowboys Stadium

-- Greenwich football helmet autographed by Greenwich alumnus Steve Young

-- NFL football autographed by Peyton Manning

-- NFL football autographed by Tom Brady

-- NFL football autographed by coaches and players of the2010 Pittsburgh Steelers Super Bowl team

-- New York Giants No. 10 game jersey autographed by Eli Manning

-- New Orleans Saints No. 9 game jersey autographed by Drew Brees

-- The Department of Parks and Recreation is still acceptings registrations for the Town Tennis Tournament to be held over a three-week span beginning July 16.  The finals will be at Binney Park on July 30, with a rain date of July 31.   

There are divisions for men, woman, singles, doubles, mixed doubles, youths 17 and under, and youths 12 and under.

The divisions are broken up into open division 18 to 34 years, 35 and over, 50 and over.  Participants may register for one, two or three events.  The fee is $25 per event for singles players, $40 per event for doubles teams.
