No. 8 Trumbull (7-3-6) at No. 1 St. Joseph (14-1-1), 2 p.m.
No. 6 Wilton (8-3-5) at No. 3 Westhill (11-1-4), 3 p.m.
No. 7 Fairfield Warde (9-5-2) at No. 2 New Canaan (12-2-2), 3 p.m.
Semifinals are Tuesday at Wilton at 5 and 7 (higher seed in late game) and the final is Thursday at 5 p.m. at Norwalk.
The Greenwich football team appears to be on a collision course with Staples on Thanksgiving.
The Cardinals (5-1) certainly don't figure to have any problem this week as they host winless Westhill (0-6) on Saturday.
Last week, Greenwich improved to 5-0 in the FCIAC with a 55-28 victory over Bridgeport Central as Shane Nastahowski rushed for 110 yards and four touchdowns. Mark Bernstein also surpassed the century mark on the ground with 106 yards and two TDs.
For the season, Nastahowski has rushed for 652 yards and 12 TDs on 77 carries.
The Cardinals figure to have more success on the ground against the Vikings, who are coming off a 41-14 loss to Danbury in which Hatters' running back James Harrington also run for four touchdowns.
Greenwich is in a four-way battle with New Canaan (6-0), Darien (6-0) and Staples (6-0) for a spot in the FCIAC championship game. Staples hosts Darien on Saturday, so the loser could drop out of contention.
The Cardinals are 12th in the CIAC Class LL rankings, so they may need some help to make the state playoffs.
The Greenwich girls soccer team concluded the regular season Thursday with a 1-0 loss against New Canaan.
The Cardinals (10-2-4) who had already clinched an FCIAC playoff seed are seeded fourth for the FCIAC playoffs and will host No. 5 Darien (9-4-3) in the quarterfinals on Saturday.
Darien defeated Wilton 2-0 to grab one of three spots still available on Thursday. The other berths went to Trumbull, which tied Westhill 1-1, and Fairfield Warde, which blanked Trinity Catholic, 3-0.
In the other quarterfinals, No. 1 St. Joseph (14-1-1) hosts No. 8 Trumbull (7-3-6), No. 2 New Canaan (12-2-2) entertains No. 7 Fairfield Warde (9-5-2), No. 3 Westhill (11-1-4) is home for No. 6 Wilton (8-3-5) .
Wilton and Fairfield Warde finished with the same point, but the Warriors earned the higher seed based on a win over the Mustangs during the regular season.
Staples stayed alive earlier Thursday with a 4-0 win over Stamford, forcing Trumbull to get at least one point against Westhill, something the Eagles accomplished by scoring in the second half to erase a 1-0 deficit.
