Greenwich's Abby Markowitz and Staples' Henry Wynne, who helped their teams win FCIAC indoor track titles last week, have been named the latest MSG Varsity’s FCIAC Players of the Week.
Markowitz, a senior, won the 1,000-meter, 1,600-meter and 3,200-meter runs as the Cardinals captured their first indoor girls championship since 1990.

Wynne won the 1,000-meters and 1,600-meters while finishing second in the 3,200-meters. He helped Staples win its first boys indoor title since 2006, ending Danbury's five-year reign.
Winners of the FCIAC Player of the Week Award are chosen by a committee consisting of four FCIAC athletic directors, along with sports writers from MSG Varsity and area newspapers.

is pleased to announce that it has partnered with three world-renowned female athletes to run sport-specific summer camps for children.
Soccer phenomenon Kristine Lilly will offer the Kristine Lilly Soccer Academy, hockey great Angela Ruggiero will offer the Angela Ruggeiro Hockey School, and squash legend Natalie Grainger will run summer-long squash camps at Chelsea Piers Connecticut.
Lilly brings the Kristine Lilly Soccer Academy (KLSA) to Chelsea Piers Connecticut, where she will coach a one-week KLSA camp August 6 -10. The full-day camp will be open to boys and girls ages 7 to 13. KLSA camps are dedicated to providing campers with an opportunity to develop as individual players within a disciplined and unselfish environment.
“The facilities at Chelsea Piers Connecticut are ideal for training children in soccer,” Lilly said. “The indoor fields, off-field cross training capabilities and recreactional periods allow for a comprehensive, full-day program that can cater to every level of soccer player.”
Former Olympian Ruggiero will kick off Chelsea Piers Connecticut summer camp with a week-long ice hockey camp July 9-13. The full-day camp will be open to girls ages 6 to 14.
Ruggiero’s teaching philosophy is simple—every player is different and is to be treated as an individual. Each player will be exposed to the different aspects of their respective positions and will be encouraged to incorporate the skills learned into their own style of play.
“Having retired from hockey this year, I am thrilled to be able to coach girls in hockey – a sport that has given me so much,” Ruggiero said. “The facilities and mission of Chelsea Piers Connecticut are exactly the sort of thing that I am excited to get involved with.”
Grainger will run weekly Racquets Camps in addition to elite and high Performance Squash Camps. Players that have a U.S. squash national ranking or play on their school squash teams can register for intensive one-week sessions designed to help players improve their game through basic technique and drilling skills, fitness development, and fun match play.
“The squash facility will be the best in the area, and I am so excited to further develop the robust squash community in Fairfield County. Our summer camps will provide an opportunity for young players to improve while being part of a much greater multi-sport progam,” Grainger said.
Coaches provide the same advanced coaching and training techniques that elite level pros use to help players succeed. Grainger will lend her coaching and traininig skills to all squash and racquets camps throughout the summer.
“This collection of female athletes – Kristine, Angela and Natalie - are some of the very best their sports have ever seen,” said Mollie Marcoux, Executive Director, Chelsea Piers Connecticut. “We could not be more excited to offer local female athletes this truly unique camp opportunity. All three women are not only among the world’s most talented, but they are all ambassadors for their respective sports and most importantly, they are ideal role models for young athletes.”

Darnell Dorival scored the tiebreaking goal with under six minutes remaining Wednesday as the Westhill boys hockey team continued its resurgence with a 3-2 victory over Greenwich.
The Vikings, who started the season 0-8-1, improved to 5-8-1 with their fifth consecutive victory. Westhill must split its last six games to make the state tournament.
Greenwich dropped to 3-13 and was eliminated from postseason play.
Lukas Znosko and Ryan Silk scored in the first period to give Westhill a 2-0 lead, but Decker Curran halved the deficit for the Cardinals, who pulled even on a goal by Matt Lodato in the second period.
Tyler Phillipson (10) Adam Goldstone (11) combined to make 21 saves for Westhill while Vinny Scorese stopped 18 shots for Greenwich.

The FCIAC wrestling championships are set for Friday and Saturday at New Canaan High School.
The event begins with the weigh-ins on Friday at 3 p.m., followed by the round of 16 matches of 4:30 p.m. and the quarterfinal bouts later in the evening.
The competition resumes on Saturday at 10 a.m. with the semifinals and consolation quarterfinals, to be followed by the consolation semifinals at 12 p.m. and the fifth-place and third-place matches at 2 p.m. The championship finals are set to begin at 4 p.m. on Saturday.
Awards will be be given to the FCIAC East and West champions along with the most valuable wrestler, the most falls in least aggregate time and a sportsmanship winner. Finally, awards will be presented to the FCIAC tournament runner-up and champion.
In 2011, Danbury won its 24th FCIAC title in 25 years, defeating runner-up Greenwich by 50 points. Fairfield Warde finished third, followed by Trumbull, Stamford and Westhill.
The Hatters reclaimed the championship after Warde ended their 23-year title reign in 2010.
Danbury, which is 20-0 and ranked No. 1 in the state, is again considered the favorite to win the crown. Other contenders include Trumbull, which is ranked ninth in the Norwich Bulletin top 10 state coaches' poll, and Warde, which is 11th.
