Outstanding Journalism Deserves Commendation

Outstanding journalism demands recognitions and commendation.

Usually accolades of praise submitted to the media are not about the venue itself, nor the editor. In this case, however, acclaim is due, special recognition is warranted, and both must be given!

Greenwich Patch Editor Barbara Heins and Greenwich Post Editor, Ken Borsuk, deserve commendations and special mention for their continuous outstanding on-the-spot and comprehensive coverage of the impact of Hurricane Sandy on our folks, on our communities, and on the status of service recovery throughout Greenwich.

Having these nearly real-time on-line/Smart Phone updates during the blackout/power outages has significantly enhanced the information that has been so diligently provided by our Town officials several times a day. It has served to keep those of us without power in the loop and as well informed as we could be given the magnitude of the disruption we are still enduring.  Kudos Ms. Heins and Mr. Borsuk on your outstanding journalism during this crisis!

Having drafted many disaster planning documents for the Greenwich Department of Health in my former role as Director of Community Health Planning, I can't begin to tell you how important planned redundancy is in orchestrating effective planning and response preparation. It is a key concept in effective planning. As a result of the collective efforts of many, Greenwich has stood out as exemplary in the face of an unprecedented natural disaster. Those, like myself, who received many contacts throughout this crisis from citizens for information and guidance were able to remain current on the Town's disaster and recovery efforts and to serve as conduits of the Town's current guidance to our citizens because of the quality communication we received from so many responsible sources. We had all the resources and information at our fingertips and on our SmartPhones.

Our command post leadership and spokespeople, and our utility company representatives did us all proud, under very difficult circumstances, and you both gave us great and timely coverage. Thank you all for your service, and let us private citizens all keep this in mind as our recovery days stretch ahead of us and we grow weary, worn out, and possibly cranky.
